Why Are Police Treating Protesters Like Terrorists?

From Zuccotti Park to Nashville, counterterrorism cops and homeland security officials are spying on and intimidating Occupy protesters. It may have something to do with the way the Patriot Act can be read to classify civil disobedience as domestic terrorism. —PZS

The Guardian:

“At the beginning of this movement, I could understand why there might have been a presence of Counter Terrorism Units operating at Liberty Plaza – because nobody knew who we were and what we represented,” states [Occupy Wall Street fixture] Stocker. “Now, their presence is just overkill and antagonistic. What we stand for is clear and it is clear we are not terrorists.”

Occupy protesters should make themselves familiar with the USA Patriot Act. Section 802 expanded the definition of domestic terrorism to include persons who engage in acts of civil disobedience to coerce or affect the conduct of government by intimidation of the civilian population. Furthermore, the US Department of Defence training manuals, until an amendment in 2009, equated protest with “low-level terrorism”. Although the DoD changed the wording two years ago, human rights lawyers and activists have lingering concerns about whether the sentiment and intent has caught up with the change.

Remember the 5th of November for next year people/citizens; it just may be a very symbolic date.  With presidential elections in the US and the growing threat of uncertainty about the economy around the world and none of these so called "leaders" listening to the people who give them their power, I suspect these peaceful protests won't be so peaceful by this time next year.  Good luck Tyrants, you're going to need it, I think over the course of the next several months we'll have given you ample warning to change your evil, greedy, selfish ways or step down.   If that doesn't work, and I doubt it will, because Absolute Power corrupts absolutely, maybe a quick history lesson would teach you, you CANNOT possibly win the battle that is brewing.  So if you'd like to survive the inevitable, get out NOW.  If not, you reap what you sow.  Remember the people gave you power to serve the people for the people, not to serve yourselves.   These “public” parks you kick us out of, guess what?  We paid for them, we own them, we are the “public”.  These “permits” you are asking us to get for the “right” to protest, guess what?  We don’t need them, it IS our right to protest, we don’t need your permission, that’s the point of the 1st Amendment and the Constitution that you’ve so willingly ignored and destroyed.  You don’t ask permission from the person you want to protest against if you can protest, that has to be the most un-American concept that anyone has ever set forth and it cannot remain for freedom to exist (Just one such example or how the powerful are trying to keep their power).  Our fore fathered are rolling over in their graves every time an American even thinks about filing for one of those permits.
Remember the 5th, remember history, Sic Semper Tyrannis (Thus always to tyrants).  Soon the Occupy Wall Street and Tea Party activists are going to wake up and realize they are all mad at the same people, and when that happens, watch out for the worldwide government overhaul.  They’ve kept us divided for so long to disguise one simple truth, the Democrats and the Republicans are the SAME party.  Just look at the upcoming Republican candidates and you’ll quickly notice they’ve already deiced who will run against Obama (Romney), not that it matters, because no one likes any of the “choices” anyways.  Not that we even picked them, we just have the choice of the lesser of two evils.  To those of you with all of the money, to those of you with all of the decision making power, to those of you who are behind the curtains pulling the strings in the media, in government, in banking, in the unions, listen up, because we’re talking to you.   Yes, you may try to prevent this, yes you may fight back, and yes our side will take the most casualties, but you will LOSE in the end, and at great cost. Change now or go the way of your predecessors. If nothing else this occupy Wall Street movement will have one very great and lasting effect on us all.  If they remain long enough, if they can persevere through the bullying, the repression, the clear obstruction to our basic human rights and freedoms, your fight will not be for nothing.  It will do one important thing to pave the way for the rest of us who are currently sitting on the sides lines (me included).  It will help reveal to us the true face of our enemy.  Those who are truly in power and are willing to do anything to keep that power shall be revealed and when that happens our anger, our drive for change will be focused and change will happen, it’s inevitable.  For those sitting politicians that do have pure hearts and good intentions for the people, I say only this, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice, we appreciate and honor you.  Good luck in your next endeavor or with retirement, we do truly appreciate your service to the people of this great country.”

OCCUPY SYDNEY, like all the other OCCUPY RALLIES around the world, are targeting CORPORATE GREED and, therefore, the " counsellors, judges and ministers" (featured in the Bill of Rights 1689) will do the bidding of their employers, the "1%", with the BANKSTERS at the top .

Yesterday, I went along to Hyde Park to attend one of OCCUPY SYDNEY's "General Assemblies", at which they discuss issues pertaining to the movement, to hand around A5 yellow cards which I had printed at Officeworks on the way to catch the train to get into the city.  This card flushed out a few of the sneaky characters who reacted badly when they read to message on the card by saying "This is rubbish." and "Not interested." or simply glaring at me and giving me back the card that said:-  

ADVICE WHEN ARRESTED:

The DUTY of a POLICE OFFICER is to PRESERVE

the QUEEN'S PEACE. If you are not DISTURBING

the PEACE, they have NO RIGHT to interfere with

your PEACEFUL PROTEST.

The Sydney City Council is NOT LOCAL

GOVERNMENT and cannot make bylaws ... it is a

CORPORATION. LOCAL GOVERNMENT was

ABOLISHED and NOT TO BE ESTABLISHED

by the 1988 REFERENDUM.

Martin Place is a PUBLIC PLACE and belongs to the

PEOPLE. The POLICE have NO RIGHT to ORDER

YOU to do anything or to TAKE YOUR PROPERTY.

They have NO RIGHT to ASSAULT YOU and

to ARREST YOU. If you are ARRESTED, then YOU

The young lady organizing the "LEGAL TEAM" is called "Wennie" and the firm of lawyers "helping" the OCCUPIERS who have been arrested and charged by the NSW POLICE FORCE is the MARSDEN.LAW GROUP, Suite 1, 1st Floor, 154 Elizabeth Street, Sydney, where John Adam ( jadam@marsdens.net.au ) is the "Managing Partner".

This coming Saturday morning at 11:00 am in Hyde Park, there will be an OCCUPY SYDNEY Legal Workshop to discuss the court actions for the arrestees which will be taking place over the next few weeks.  Naturally, I will attend that session to further the cause of our COMMON LAW RIGHTS - which, as we all know, LAWYERS REJECT.

I have asked to be able to talk with the lawyers "representing" those arrested - but Wennie does not think that will be possible.

Also, I would like to talk to the charged guys and gals, themselves .... perhaps that will happen on Saturday.

Yes,  BOYS AND GIRLS, because that's who they are.... they are the PRESENT GENERATION that NOAM CHOMSKY praised for their stepping forward in this JUST CAUSE ... see Noam Chomsky on the www.occupysydney.org.au website.

This OCCUPY movement, here and around the world, is a ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY to RESURRECTION the RULE OF LAW to ACHIEVE JUSTICE FOR ALL .... and the Banks and Judges know it.

Wouldn't it be simply fantastic if we could awaken the CONSCIENCES of men and women in the LEGAL PROFESSION and have them COME OVER TO OUR SIDE??

Wouldn't it be amazing if we could dispense with that familiar cry of "WOE TO YOU LAWYERS!" and say to them "JOIN WITH US, YOU LAWYERS!"

..... there's got to be some amongst them who are praying for a chance to "DO RIGHT".

..... all they have to do is DEMAND TRIAL BY JURY for their clients.
